The Kingdom Of Love

Eamon Friel Cop. Con.

Maybe we’ll stay where we are for a while me and you
Here in the sun, here in the light
Winter is over and now with a flourish of wings
Into the air wild geese in flight
Taking his time but the sun swings up higher each day
And the wind from the south it caresses the land like a glove
It is enough to have dreamed enough to have laughed
For a while in this world to have lived in the kingdom of love

There was a man on the street and he played the guitar
I stopped and stood, watching him strum
There in his certainty singing his sweet songs of faith
Singing a hymn till kingdom come
But when he asked would I enter the kingdom of God
All I could answer was leave that to God up above
It is enough to have dreamed enough to have laughed
For a while in this world to have lived in the kingdom of love

And in the kingdom of love there is no king but love alone
Love is not narrow for love is a generous thing
And it can wait a long time all of a life just to be known
Changing the world in a moment like earliest spring

So all you lovers of hate and you haters of love
What can I say to your hard hearts
There you are turning your faces away from the light
Malice and scorn your darkest arts
You’ll never walk in the sunlight and you’ll never sing
Here is a land that you’ll never know anything of
It is enough to have dreamed enough to have laughed
For a while in this world to have lived in the kingdom of love
